LIKE countless other kids I once wrote to Jim’ll Fix It and asked him if he could fix it for me to meet Tony Hart and help him with whatever fantastic art piece he would be doing that day. I must have been about eight or nine years old and I have to say there was a large amount of disappointment that I never heard back from the show.
I think I reckoned that because I had never seen anyone get onto Take Hart via Jim’ll Fix It (though it was possible that I had missed it of course) that I had a good chance. I really did, probably because I wanted it a lot.
I loved Tony Hart, I thought he was amazing and I so wanted to meet him.
Then when I was 13 I had to get something out of my Dad’s pocket and found my letter to Jim’ll Fix It that my Dad had never posted, I never even had a chance to get on the show. I laugh now thinking that I was actually annoyed at that, even some years later at the age of 13.
When I think of it now; well that’s a different story.
I’m sad to learn that Tony Hart died today, he was an inspiration, even if I didn’t get to take part in Take Hart. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
PS Rabble Muse has just shared with me her memory of Tony Hart, a subject she is still smarting over. Despite sending in numerous art pieces, every week in fact, she never made it to the gallery.
